Andy's Been Back for ONE DAY

and already he's distracting me from going to the gym. We're taking the canoe to Fazon lake, for an evening paddle/fishing adventure. It's really pretty out, and it's Friday, and heck I've already been to the gym 3 times this week.

So I'm TRYING not to feel guilty about it!

It should be lots of fun!

Damn that man!

Birthday Wish List

To answer Stennie's question - no, I do not have an Amazon.com wish list. I've looked around, and if I come up with a list I'll let you know.

But what I'd really like is this:

Send me a copy of your favorite book. I don't care if it's used or whatever. I just need some good books to read, and I'm running out of ideas.

Popular Titles/Authors I've already read: (also to give you an idea of the kinds of books I've enjoyed)

John Irving - everything
Barbara Kingsolver - Poisonwood Bible, Bean Trees, Animal Dreams
William Goldman - The Princess Bride, The Silent Gondoliers
??? (Can't remember) - Memoires of a Geisha
JRR Tolkein - Lord of the Rings (well I've only read the 1st one but I HAVE them all)
JK Rowling - The Harry Potter Books (and I'm already signed up for the new one)

I'm sure there are glaring omissions. Of course. If I think of any other obvious ones, I'll add it.

So if you WANT to get me a present, don't break your budget. Just pick me up a used copy of a good book to read (Stennie, Flipsy, I realize that bookstores in LA are very rare, and that USED bookstores are non-existent. So if you can't find a book, just send me porn!)

BIG FAT LIAR!

Certain people who happen to be my boyfriend are BIG FAT LIARS!

I called him last night (he's been working in Idaho) and asked him when he's going to be laid off. He was pretty grouchy. He said he didn't know. He said he was getting bored there and hoped it would be soon. He said he'd call me tomorrow.

Well...guess who just walked through my office door a moment ago?

What a sneak! He totally lied to me last night so he could surprise me today! Oh, he's evil! ...... And wonderful. I'm so glad he's home!

Course now the rest of the day at work is going to DRAG!

Something Else I Learned on the Toilet

This isn't a trivia question, but did you know that, officially, snow is considered a mineral?

Things I Learned on the Toilet

WORMS! (not stoats) Earthworms make up half the weight of all animals on earth! Woa.

Today's question is a fill-in-the-blank:

Sigmund Freud had a morbid fear of __________?

Subliminal Advertising

I hate it that every time I go to update my iMood dealy, the first word on the list of "moods" to choose from is always "abandoned." What a downer? Why couldn't they have "A-1" or A Ok!" or something positive to pop up and greet you when you log on?

Also, I wish you could put in your OWN mood, if what you're feeling isn't in the list. Quite often I want to be "postal" or "poopy" or "sucky" "kick-ass" or whatever and there's no option for that. And of course, I wish there were more faces to choose from. And that they were big enough to SEE.

But don't get me down right off the bat by shoving "abandoned" in my face! How terrible!

Things I Learned on the Toilet

The answer to yesterday's question, nobody got. It's "belches at you." That'd be enough to make me want to stay away.

Today's question:

Pound for pound, what animal makes up half of all the animal life on the planet?

Outdoor Activity of the Day

Today on my lunch break, instead of stressing out trying to run errands, screaming at slow drivers, speeding, silently cursing out the people in line in front of me, and wolfing down the fastest food I can buy, I decided to get away from it all. I brought a can of soup and some crackers to eat, so as not to waste time acquiring lunch, and headed off to Hovander Homestead/Tennant Lake Park, five minutes from my work.

Hovander is an old homestead, just like the name says, along the Nooksack River that's been preserved and is now a park where visitors can get a feel for what an old 1903 farm was like. They have bunnies and turkeys and pigs and other animals you can visit and all kinds of old farm equipment you can climb on, and is generally a cool place for kids and adults to picnic and walk around and play. (In fact, when Lint and I were kids, the WWU Chemistry department used to have the annual Chemistry Picnic here. Lint would always break out in a rash from playing in the grass, and I would get mad at her cause she'd want to go home. That pretty much sums up a lot of our early friendship. Lint would want to go home and I'd get mad. Of course, Lint wanting to go home often had something to do with me being just a teensy bit bossy....And let it be known that I NEVER wanted to go home. Except maybe that time I was going to spend the night at her house, and forgot my blankey. BUT ANYWAYS!) Adjacent to the park is Tennant Lake, which has an interpretive center, "fragrance garden" and boardwalk you can stroll around and check out the water, lilly pads, beavers, birds (take it easy, Stennie) and other wildlife.

Hovander Homestead (Big Red Barn)

I had a nice brisk walk around the boardwalk and then headed down the trail to the farm. It was SO much nicer to get out in the fresh air, smell the fragrant plants at the gardens and be surrounded by green and birdsong and sunshine than my usual lunchtime rush. I'll have to come back again later in the week.

Things I Learned on the Toilet

The answer to last Wednesday's question "Turn right." Apparently, most people head off to the right when entering the grocery store. Actually, I do this.

Today's question:

How does an orangutan warn you to stay out of its territory?

Wonderful Weekend

Well, despite the fact that my Andy-man was in Alaska this weekend (now he's in Idaho!), I had a pretty darned good weekend.

Friday night I went to the Black Cat with the girls, and had several hours of good chat and Grape Nehis. Nothing like GIRLS NIGHT!

I had a 45 minute conversation with my man at about 3am later that night. Now, most people would be annoyed at being woken up at 3am to talk on the phone, but not me. I never have trouble going back to sleep, and I love it when Andy calls. Plus I'd missed his call earlier that night and the night before. He's a dork, we talked about nonsense and I love him. I also realized that I was rather drunker than I thought.

Saturday morning I woke up with a headache (what the hell?) which went away when I took 2 Aleve and made myself some whole wheat french toast. I sat on my bed watching MASH and drinking my coffee and doing the Saturday morning crossword puzzle. It was very nice. The sun was coming in through the window and my flower boxes are blooming like crazy, and the ocean and islands were very pretty.

But I had to leave that lazy glory because I had signed up to....

BOWL FOR KID'S SAKE! My third year in a row.

It was fun, and a good cause, but ONLY 2 OF OUR TEAM SHOWED UP! It doesn't effect how much money we raise, or the bowling itself, but it would have been a heck of a lot more fun if all five players had been there! Ah, well, at least I LIKED the other girl who showed up, and we still had a good time.

After bowling, my friend Sue and I loaded up the bikes and went for a 6 mile bike ride out the Lake Whatcom Trail. It is SO pretty out there! There is a fantastic waterfall we road past that I would have photographed and posted here except a) I didn't have my camera and b) My camera is not digital and I don't have access to a scanner. Boy am I lo-fi...

I came home hungry and whipped myself up some guacamole and chips. Nothing like exercising for an hour and half and then blowing it on a fatty snack right afterwards!

Then I had to get ready to meet the girls from work at the Casino, for a fun filled evening of money-losing! We had a great time, one gal had never been to a Casino and was so excited. I lost my pre-determined limit in due time, and then another 20 bucks, and then called it a night. It was a BUSY day!

To make up for such a busy saturday, I had a much less eventful Sunday. I woke up and bought a Sunday paper, and lounged on my bed watching the Dallas/Portland baskeball game, going through the ads in the paper, and eating cereal and yogurt and sipping my coffee. I did this for a LONG TIME! LA-ZY!

I did have 2 items on my list to take care of: #1 Go to the gym. After the game was over, I dragged my lame ass to the gym and KICKED BUTT there. I worked out super hard and extra long. This, I feel, entitles me to do practically nothing for the rest of the day!

I also #2 Did my laundry.

And that's about it! I was so wiped out from the gym and the busy weekend, I was a slug the whole rest of the day. It was great!

I hope you all had a Wonderful Weekend.
