Lake Padden Triathlon!!!
I DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!
Yep, ladies and gents (and I can call you that because of all the good manners you've all been learning in my Monday Manners lessons)I raced in the Lake Padden Triathlon today. Woo hooooo! And I did really well, if I do say so myself. And it was fun!!
No, I didn't set any world records. Or any records of any kind. But I DID meet my first goal for myself, which was to complete the race without stopping or walking my bike or walking during the "running" leg. I did the whole thing. And I reached my second goal, which was not to die trying. AND I exceeded by third goal, which was to do the race in in 1 hour and 45 minutes. My final time INCLUDING transitions was 1 hour and 31 minutes and 17 seconds. I ROCK!! My good friend Amy who has been my training partner (well, we almost never trained together, but we talked about training constantly) did it in 1 hour, 31 minutes and something like 50 seconds. I can't believe we finished with almost the exact same time. They start the swimmers off in waves of 50, so that you're not being clawed too badly, and we had agreed to start in separate waves so that we wouldn't be tempted to try to catch up to each other or to wait for each other, especially in the transitions. So it's really unbelievable that we finished with almost the same time.
Ok, yes there were times when I didn't think I was going to make it, especially during the first half of the run. But I told myself just to think of something else cause there was NO WAY I was going to stop and walk. And it got better. I even had just enough in the tank to really "turn it on" at the end. That was the hardest part for me, actually. You could hear people cheering at the transition/finish line area from all the way around the lake. Which was RAD! But I knew that my boyfriend and his parents (who also happen to be Amy's brother and parents)were waiting at the finish line, and that there were tons of other people cheering too, and I started to get this adrenaline rush of excitement when I was still 3/4 a mile away from finishing. I had to tell myself to stay calm and just keep going my pace. My body wanted to GO GO GOOOOO Yay I'M almost done let's SPRINT!!! But my brain knew there was no way I was going to be able to sprint that whole way, and instead my legs would just turn to jello and I'd fall on my face. So I took deep breaths (not like I wasn't doing that anyway - hello, I'm at the end of a triathlon!) and kept calm and then when I hit the home stretch I let it all go and just RAN. And then I finished and promptly burst into tears. (Those of you who know me well will say to yourselves, "Yep, that's the girl I know). All that excitement just released and suddenly I wanted to cry! But in a good way, and just for a second. Then hooray hooray hoo-ahhh! I DID IT!!!
It was the perfect weather. It was a tough but fun race. And everybody was really nice. The training REALLY paid off, I passed so many people on the bike ride, especially up the tough hills. On the last really hard hill I was one out of maybe three or four people who powered up the hill on my bike, while another 10-15 people were pushing theirs up on foot. Yay training! I'm really proud of myself, this time last year I was struggling to run a mile. Running the 2.6 miles around the lake seemed like such an impossibility. Let alone putting that with 1/4 swim and 10 mile hilly bike ride. On the same day. And trying to do it fast!
Course, now there's the Danskin in August. That race is longer. But it's way flatter, so that might kind of equal out. I'll put a link to the few photos I took when I get them online and the race results once they're posted (just to prove I was really there.)
I have my race number that I wore on my shirt. I'm so proud of it, I want to frame it!! Silly, huh?

Bad to Worse
So I got my car back. And although it cost $300, I can't tell that they did a darn thing, except smoke cigarettes in it and break my radio.
And my favorite jeans were STOLEN out of the laundry last night.
I'm missing Vegas more and more. Staci, can I borrow your escape mechanism?

Monday Manners
Oh man, look at you all! Where are your manners!? I can't believe the slovenly state you're all in. And what on EARTH do you think you're doing with that napkin?
Time to whip you all back into shape, with this week's lesson, from the chapter "In Speech:"
Don't say "hung" when "hanged" is meant. Men, unfortunately, are sometimes hanged; pictures are hung.
Yes...and fortunately, sometimes men are hung too...
