Great Big Bummer
Well, bad news. Turns out the dental hygiene school I was all set to apply to after this quarter changed their application rules at the last minute. And they added four classes to the list of prerequisites, AND moved the deadline up to the end of fall quarter. So basically, I have this fall to take 5 classes. Two of which must be taken in sequence, and 2 of which aren't offered in the fall. Somehow, that doesn't seem possible.
I called the school and talked to the head of the department. She was most unsympathetic. "Yep, that's too bad. There are lots of students in the same boat." was her paraphrased reply. I got the feeling that she'd answered the same questions about 15 times that morning. And when I suggested that I could complete the added requirements, but it would take me 'til the end of spring quarter, she didn't care. "Is there any way you could bend on the deadline?" I asked. "No." was the warm fuzzy reply.
SO! I have to wait ANOTHER year before I can apply to the program. This means that I'm still two years away from quitting my job (oh, Lord give me strength!) and going to school. What's the word I'm looking for, um.....oh yes! CRAP!!!! I'm really bummed out. I really am. This is the second time I've had to push school off a year. I really hate having to put my future on hold again.
But, I'm trying to look on the bright side. This means that I won't be going to school until A-Man finishes, so if he has to move to get a job, maybe I can try to find a school where he's going to be. Before, we were going to overlap a year, which meant we'd have at least one year in separate cities. Also, the school I was applying to had (before the revision) fewer pre-reqs than most of the other DH schools in the state. Now they'll be about the same, so now I'll be able to apply to several schools at once, which will give me more options and safety schools. These programs are highly competetive, typically accepting about 25 students a year. So it'll be good to have my eggs in more than one pot. And it means I get to hang out in the Belly for one more year, which is always nice. I don't have to worry about moving for a while now, or finding a place to live down there. Or how I'm going to pay for this all. At least not for another year. Those are the bright sides. And it'll be ok, and it's only a delay, not a cancellation. BUT STILL! I hate to wait!
This quarter I'm taking Anatomy and Physiology. (or Blood and Guts, as I like to call it). I guess we get to play with dead cats. I wonder if I'm allergic to dead cats as well as live ones?
On a whole 'nother note: I went for my first run in A MONTH on monday. And actually, it went pretty darn well! I ran three miles, from Fairhaven, through Boulevard Park, almost to Bellingham and back again. It was a nice night for a run, and I got to run for the first time over the new footbridge on the South end of the park. It's really cool! And yes, I was sore the next day, and yes, I'm still sore. But not VERY sore. Just enough to know I did some good. I was pretty pleased! I'm going again after work, in the pouring rain. Actually, it's nice to run in the rain. You don't get so hot and sweaty. As long as I'm not going to busy moving out of my apartment this spring/summer, I may as well get ready for the next triathlons!

Trust Me
Sweet! I LOVE this movie! (although this wasn't what I pictured when they asked which "classic" movie I am. I mean sure, it's a classic, but it's not a Classic. Ya know? I was imagining something in black and white.)

Aloha...
...which in this case means hello!
Yes, I am BACK from Hawaii! BOO-HOOOO!
Ok, blah blah it's nice to be home yatta yatta I missed everyone yak yakkity yak. And that's true. But man, it sure was nice living the leisure life for a few days!
So what did I do? Well, mostly I snorkeled the whole time! We swam with huge green sea turtles several times, saw every kind of fish imaginable, lots of coral and eels too. We laid on the beach, read our books by the pool, and went on some VERY cool hikes. We swam in pristine isolated mountain pools at the bottom of waterfalls. We jumped off the rocks and made a big splash in the pristine isolated mountain pools at the bottom of waterfalls. We walked on a 200 year old lava flow that still was barren of any life. We ate out and and drank out, and I tried just about every kind of froo-froo tropical drink there is. We thoroughly explored two islands. We walked on the beach in the morning on our way to breakfast, and at night on our way home from the bar. We looked for sharks teeth. We got very brown skin. We shopped for nick-nacks and ate lots of fish. We ate some GREAT sashimi at a very Japanese restaurant. We ate all kinds of tropical fruit, and drank the juice straight out of a coconut. We drank beer and played cards on our lanai at night. We wore flowers behind our ears (ok, only I did that) We saw geckos everywhere! We had a damn good time!
Pictures are coming very soon, I just need to get the cd from the A-Man and I'll upload them to my photo album. Check back soon!

Things I Learned on the Toilet
I know, the wait has been killing you. Here are the answers to the "toilet" questions from my vacation:
1. Mafia means "beauty, excellence, bravery" in Italian. Nobody got this one!
2. Georgie's fake teeth were made of Hippopotomus ivory. Venice was close...
3. Believe it or not, Iowa has the highest percentage of literate citizens. You really ought to give Iowa a try...
4. Yep, big surprise, Washington State (home sweet home) recycles the most. Actually, that should be a big surprise, considering that we don't get a nickel for returning our bottles like some of those other states. Stennie got this question right. That's actually the only question anyone got right!
5. A moment is defined to last exactly 1 1/2 minutes. That's pretty long. Much longer than I'd have thought. Interestingly, 1 1/2 minutes happens to also be exactly how long it takes a lamb to shake it's tail two times...
Now, for today's question:
What is a "fagotist?"

I Am a Donut
Yep, that's me all right. So where's my Y2K male version of Marilyn Monroe?
