It's All About Me Me Meme

What is a meme? How is it pronounced? Is it "Meem" or is it "Meemay" or "Memmy" or "Maim"? Is it "Mee-Mee" as in "Me...me...me" which is what these things are always about? What is the origin of the word?

In any case, I have been tagged, as have we all. So here goes, let's see if I can remember anything longer ago than five years.

Thirty Years Ago - 1975: I was two years old. I remember practically nothing, (Jellybean probably remembers EVERYTHING) but I have seen photos, and I was a bald little thing with a bright red dot right in the middle of my nose. Thank god the hair came to stay and the dot left for good.

Twenty-Five Years Ago - 1980: I have a very vivid memory from this year, May 18th, when Mt. St. Helens blew up. My mom and brothers could hear the explosion (dad and I were sleeping in) from 250 miles away. And when the carnival came to town a few days later, the trucks were covered in ash, so we scooped up a big jarfull as a souvenir. I was 7 years old, in second grade. I was in Mrs. Lake's class and there was a really cute boy in my class named Andy that I should have had a crush on, but instead this was the year I fell in LOVE with Ryan M. That crush lasted a LONG time. He never checked the box that says "Yes" though...

Twenty Years Ago - 1985: Seventh grade. Crush on Ryan M. was at its height. In fact, I remember he let me wear his scarf for a few hours that day and I was on the verge of swooning over it. That was the year I wanted to play flute in band, but I'd been out of state the year before so I was a year behind. So they made me take shop instead. And I loved it!

Fifteen Years Ago - 1990: Junior year of high school. Good year. That was the year I discovered drama and finally found the place I fit in. That was the year I met Teri - my drama teacher and friend and role model. I was Aunt Martha in Arsenic and Old Lace, and won my first acting award for a one-act I did. I also got my driver's license!

Ten Years Ago - 1995: I must admit I had to do some research to remember what was going on that year (I wonder why?). Now that I can peg it down, I remember it very well and very fondly. Another really good year. I was mid-way through college, and very active in the Bellingham Theatre Guild this year, I was the Caterpillar in Alice and Wonderland, I was in the Mousetrap, and this was the year we did Noises Off, my favorite play ever. I was living in a cave of an apartment with no windows in the bedrooms with my best friend, discovering all kinds of cool music and smoking pot and taking acid for the first time. We made many candle-holders out of Fimo that year. I was having the time of my life.

Five Years Ago - 2000: This was the year I started working at my current job. I had been kicked out of the house by my best friend from the entry above, and alienated from many of my friends, because I had the nerve to quit our band. I moved back in with dad and I got a full time job, and started over. Thank GOD for Andy and for his sister, my dear friend Amy. Without them I would have been very very alone. This was a tough time for me, but it was a turning point too. I finally got my own apartment with just me, got a full time job so for the first time in my life I wasn't broke, and I started becoming a grown-up.

One Year Ago - 2004: This time last year I had just completed two triathlons, of which I am very proud. I had also just returned from Hawaii with Andy and had such a wonderful time that I constantly miss it. And that's where I met my soulmate. No, sorry Andy, I don't mean you. I knew you before. No, that's where I found my soulmate pillow. The first hotel we stayed at had the BEST pillow, I've never known anything like it. I should have stolen it, it's not a crime to steal your soulmate pillow is it? I've tried to buy a similar pillow here at home, and the one I have now is pretty darn good, but it's tough, knowing your soulmate is out there, with someone else's drool on it.

That's it. I'm glad I did this, I actually enjoyed reliving some of my old fond memories. Hope I didn't bore you to death!
