Springy Spring Spring

It's sunny outside, and even though it snowed yesterday and "they" predicted possible flurries today, it seems springy. The pink trees are blossoming and the daffodils are coming up. So I redesigned the blog color scheme. Gone are the days of grilled cheese and tomato soup. Now is the time of new life and hay fever. Enjoy!

New Toy

Hello everybody!

If you read Stennie's blog more often than you read mine (and come on...everyone reads Stennie's blog more often than mine, if only for the simple reason that Stennie UPDATES her blog a heck of a lot more often than I update mine!) you'll know that she got a new cellphone yesterday. Well I got the same phone a few days ago also! And, ridiculous and childish as it may be, I am SO EXCITED about it! I love I love I love my new toy and I can't stop playing with it! I've loaded some MP3s on there and I've sent and received some photos, and I downloaded Sonic the Hedgehog onto it so I can game out while I'm waiting at the bank drive through. I'm floored at how technology has progressed so much in my short lifetime. I still remember when I was a freshman in high school, and my rich friend's Dad was giving me a ride home, and we were running late, so he let me call my folks from his CAR PHONE! Oh my god how cool was I? (remember, the old clunky phones that plugged in?) And I think about the first Walkman tape players that came out, and how big they were, and how high-tech meant having a tape player AND a radio. And now my teeny little phone is a music player and a gameboy and a personal planner and an alarm clock and a camera and a digital photo album and a web browser AND a phone! Amazing. What else could I possibly want? (besides a pony and a solid gold bathtub, of course). Anyway, you'll probably be seeing some photos up here taken with the new toy, before long.

So, it's been a while...what's new with me? Well, Andy went away for 3 weeks to work in Louisiana, doing repair work from Hurricane Rita. He was working right where the eye of the storm went through. He said the devastation is incredible and so depressing. He saw 200 ft boats 3 miles from the beach. He saw 6" I-beams twisted like pretzels. He also saw an alligator, and got WAY too close to it for my tastes:

(this picture was NOT taken with my sweet new phone) He told me he thought about jumping on its back, but then there's the old question "How do I get off?" that stopped him. It my mind, that is not only unbelievable dangerous (I mean really. Who does that?) but also...leave the poor thing alone! Andy is home safe now and away from alligator temptation and I'm GLAD!

In other news, I went to the 1st of the 3 schools I've applied to for their orientation and entrance testing two weekends ago. I liked the school (Clark), but wasn't real hot on the town (Vancouver, WA). It IS right across the river from Portland, literally 15 minutes from downtown Van to downtown Portland. But living in a giant strip mall/housing development doesn't appeal to me. (Living in the Belly has spoiled me). Nor does it to Andy, so now we're hoping I get into at least one of the Seattle schools. This is assuming that I like those schools too, I haven't actually been there or had my interviews there yet. We figure, if we're going to live in a suburb, we may as well live in one that's only an hour from home, not 4 hours on a day with no traffic. But we'll see. I did get my test scores back from Clark, and I got 100%! So that's good - I think I have a pretty good shot of being accepted there. And if that's the only school I get into, then that's where we'll go, and tough it out for two years. I'll be thankful to get in anywhere.

Otherwise, I've signed up again for the Danskin Triathlon, so wish me luck! I'm looking forward to it (and I'm nervous too!) It's a lot of work but it's also a lot of fun, and totally worth it. And it's a good excuse to get me off my butt. I'm hoping I can beat my time from two years ago (2 hours 6 minutes) but we'll see. Last time I was pretty damn driven. This time I don't know...I have the same goal as I had the first time - which is to finish the race at pace, to complete the final running leg without having to stop and walk. That'll be plenty of a challenge. Right now I want to stop after the first mile!

That's about it. I've got Senior-itis at work. Is it time to be done now?

Did I mention I got a cool new phone?
