The Waiting Game

Ok! Interviews are OVER! And now we play the waiting game.....

They went pretty well. The one at Lake Washington was first. I had to write an essay on "professionalism as it relates to the dental hygiene student" (no sweat) and then sit in a little room and answer questions like "tell me about yourself". Always a toughy. I think I answered the questions well and feel pretty good about the interview.

Then I went to a "Meet and Greet" at Shoreline, where I got to tour the facility and talk to students and teachers. This was a great idea, as I got a much better picture of what it would be like to go to school there than I did at LW/TC. I got the feeling that this school might have less "prissy dental girls" there. The clinic was a little crowded and not quite as new as LWTC, but also seemed more comfortable and "lived in".

Then Tuesday I went BACK to Shoreline to have my interview. Which, I think, went really well! I had really good answers to the questions, and the interviewers seemed to like me. I don't think I really could have done better there, and still been honest. They said they liked my Theatre background and my business background, and thought that my playing several musical instruments was really relavent to working with sharp objects in people's mouths. I think I have a pretty decent shot of being accepted there. I checked out my (pre-interview) numerical ranking, based on my grades and test scores, and I'm 27th. The top 50 are interviewed and the top 24 are accepted. So I wasn't in the top 24 before my interview, but I'm hoping that my interview bumped me up a few places. If not, one of the students at the meet and greet told me that last year many people who were offered a place in the class didn't accept because Shoreline wasn't necessarily their first choice, so they got all the way down to #38 before they filled the class. So I'm sitting pretty well at 27. I hope I hope I hope!

I think Shoreline is my first choice. I felt like they were more down-to-earth. They're also in a better location, they're closer to home and it's cheaper to live around there, and there's less traffic (well, there's still traffic, this IS Seattle we're talking about). They're also $10,000 cheaper than LWTC! However, I'm sure I'll be happy at any of the three schools. I just want to get in!!!

....waiting game sucks. Let's play Hungry Hungry Hippos!!
