JBean's Movie Meme

I'm not the movie buff that Stennie is, and if you ask me "what's you're favorite book or movie?" I'll have a lot easier time coming up with books to talk about. However, I do watch a few and here are some of my favorites:

1) Movie that you can watch over and over
"Chicago." This was tough cause I’ll watch a good comedy or musical or Christmas classic a thousand times and still enjoy it. But this is my current favorite to repeat, and since I actually own it, I’m able to.

2) Movie that you liked more than you expected to
"Go!" This is one Andy’s roommate bought and left lying around, so we watched it. Generally, said roommate has broad taste at best, so our hopes were not high. But this movie was great fun!

3) Movie that you liked more than it deserved
"Forrest Gump." I love love love this movie, I love to quote this movie. I love it I tell you. But I know enough people who think it’s total crap that maybe I’m wrong, maybe it sucks and I’m just stupid. But who cares, I love it!

4) Movie that you wanted to like but couldn't
"Bladerunner." Everyone says this is the best movie, and I thought it stunk. Does that mean I have no taste? The robot-girl who is supposed to be so lifelike is a frickin’ stick of wood. And the whole thing was so bleak and unpleasant. I fell asleep, so sue me.

5) Movie that you were excited to see when they first came out, but never saw
”Memoirs of a Geisha” I loved this book but everyone hated the movie, so I never saw it.

6) Movie you love but can't watch
”Fight Club”. I just noticed this phenonmenon the other evening, when this movie came on tv. I watched about 45 seconds of it before I couldn’t handle it anymore, even though I loved this movie the first time I saw it. I guess once was enough.

7) Movie that you liked when you were 5-8 that you still like
"Bugsy Malone”. Some childhood favorites will never die, and this tops the list.

8) Movie that you liked when you were 12-15 that you still like
”Back to the Future” It’s the Power of Love, baby.

9) First movie you saw in the theatre without your parents
A double feature of “Alice in Wonderland” and “Amy”. I think I was 8 years old. My brothers chaperoned (if you can call it that). I’m not positive this was the first time, but it’s the first time at the movies without my parents that I can remember.

10) First movie you saw on a date
"Top Gun." I was in the 6th grade and I didn’t have a special crush on the guy or anything, but hey I’ll go to a movie with you. Afterwards my parents looked at me with little half-hidden smiles and asked how my first date was. I said, “I don’t know, I don’t have anything to compare it to.”

11) Favorite literary adaptation
”The Lord of the Rings – The Fellowship of the Ring” One of the very few movies I like BETTER than the book. (Yes, I said it. The book was boring and fruity. The movie rocked!)

12) Favorite TV adaptation
”Star Trek – Nemesis” Cool movie with a cool name. I always love my TNG, and this was the best movie of all the ones they did.

13) Favorite movie from a genre you don't usually like
"Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” (or as Andy and I call it “Crouching Sandal, Hidden Ukelele” – I love the image of a sandal crouching, and a ukelele hiding in the bushes, ready to pounce. But that’s me, I’m weird.) I generally steer clear of japanese martial arts films, but this was a good movie. I wouldn’t call it a favorite, exactly, but my favorite of the genre.

14) Favorite obscure movie
"Vernon, Florida" Andy and I have a long-standing argument over whether this is a true documentary or if it’s a fake. I say it’s real. Andy insists nobody is as stupid and crazy in real life as these people. Please, see the movie and weigh in on this issue.

15) Movie you watch when you're home sick
Usually, when I’m sick I’m too wiped to commit to a movie - I’m more of a “Price is Right” and “M*A*S*H” kind of sicky. But I’ll put "Annie” This is also the movie I watch after watching a horror movie to “cleanse” my thoughts before going to sleep. This movie or “Mary Poppins”.

16) Movie you wouldn't want to watch with your parents
”Rocky Horror Picture Show” I’ll watch anything with my mom, but I’d be embarrassed to see this with my dad!

17-20) Four favorite movies you haven't already mentioned.

17 - "How to Get Ahead in Advertising" One of the best black comedies you’ll ever see. So funny I nearly peed.
18 – “Rear Window” My favorite Alfred Hitchcock and favorite “old movie”. It has everything, class, mystery, suspence, romance, humor, and adventure.
19 – “The Jerk.” Plain and simple: one of my favorite movies ever. Steve Martin when he was still funny. Another movie I could watch a million times and love to quote. In fact, these are all movies I could put in the #1 slot.
20 – “Hair” The movie is way better than the play, however if you buy the soundtrack, get the cast album, not the movie soundtrack. I love this movie. I love all of these movies!

Thank You for Padding My Ego

I got a phone call yesterday from Lake Washington Technical College - I got in there too! I've already decided to go to Shoreline, but it sure is a nice feeling to know that I had options, and that I made the cut at two really competitive schools.

I'm so excited, I can't WAIT to go. I was even looking at scrubs online the other day. How many months is it until September?
